On our first day in Hong Kong with our brand ambassador Kelly Misa, it was truly a delight to discover Barkada (@barkada.hk), a street-facing, modern Filipino restaurant and bar in Central. Founded by Fil-Am cookbook author Jen Balisi, it boasts of sophisticatedly homey interiors and a one-of-a-kind gastronomic experience. Familiar flavors with a distinct twist await your palate, with specialties such as Spicy Funky Coconut Noodles, Adobo Popcorn Chicken, Crispy Pata, as well as Sizzling Crispy Tofu Sisig and Spicy Coconut Kabocha Squash as vegan and vegetarian options. For dessert, the Ube Biko Sundae and Mango Float put the cherry on top of a mouth-watering, comforting meal. It’s also a fun place for a nightcap with cocktails such as Coconut Negroni, Tito Mojito, and Calamansi Margarita.

In the ultra-competitive food and beverage scene in Hong Kong, with a host of international restaurants and local concepts, it was a wonderful moment to witness Barkada offering something hearty and refreshing to Filipinos and foreigners alike. This place can’t go wrong with its scrumptious dishes, unique drinks, and the Filipinos’ signature warm hospitality. As the brightly lit sign by their open kitchen says, ‘Kain na! Let’s eat!’ this gem is definitely a must-visit on your next trip to Hong Kong. Cheers!
